An Electronic Data Capture (EDC) system —also known as electronic case report form (eCRF)— is a software application used to collect, clean, and export data in a clinical trial.
EDC systems are used to collect, refine, and transmit clinical data in clinical trials and observational studies.
They are web-based applications containing the patients enrolled in the study and forms in which hospital staff inserts clinical data like demographics, vital signs, blood tests, and treatment information, among others.
These clinical data are then cleaned up by correcting wrong information and solving discrepancies through queries, so that the final clean database can be analyzed to produce the results.
